I will be running the Leicester Half Marathon on the Sunday 14th October 2012. The only reason I am doing this is after I found out that my friends Karen and Richard were trying to raise money for Jamie and children like him who suffer from Hypo Plastic Left Heart Syndrome. To be honest it started out quite innocently when I thought I should do something back for charity and so I suggested it to Richard who was a bit shocked but very happy. I think I was really taken a back because I also have a 5 year old son and I don’t know if I would have coped as well as this amazing family. Not only are Richard and Karen amazing parents but they always keep a smile on their face to make it that much easier for Jamie.
After I had committed myself, I signed up to the run and left it at that, but about 2 months ago I realised that I really needed to start training if I had any chance of completing this task. And so I began training, at first I only managed to run around a mile and even that was with breaks and being absolutely shattered at the end. I now fully appreciate that this is somewhat pathetic and it made me realise how unfit I was and it almost shocked me into really getting fit. After this I then changed my eating habits and cut out all junk food (well nearly everything, lol) and after some encouragement from friends and family I got together a training schedule.
Now the running started and I made sure I kept to the schedule and ran at least 3 to 4 times a week. I have kept this up over the last 8 weeks despite suffering with severe knee pains. In fact I almost pulled out of the marathon after one of the training runs because I was in so much pain and after seeing a physiotherapist they also agreed I should stop. But! I thought about Jamie and what he has been through over the last few years of life and what he still has to go through on a daily basis and it made get a reality check and I put it into perspective and i just got on with it. I am now more confident than ever that I will finish this and hopefully in a good time.
I am so happy that I have managed to get so many brilliant sponsors BUT I still need more and as we still have a few days before the marathon, please sponsor me now.
Thanks
Amit
